I am so grateful for having the opportunity in this episode to sit down and talk with the wonderful Fritzi Horstman. Fritzi is a grammy award winning producer who is now the Founder and CEO of the Compassion Prison Project.
Looking to turn prisons into trauma centers with a key focus on drastically reducing the number of incarcerated around the world.
Fritzi is a huge advocate for the book “The Body Keeps The Score” by Dr Bessel van der Kolk and through her own research and experiences with trauma herself, noticed a huge correlation with childhood trauma and the prison population.
In the video version of this podcast I include a clip from the incredible ‘Step Inside The Circle’ video. You can see the full video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVxjuTkWQiE
With Fritzi’s work with the Compassion Prison Project she uses the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Quiz which is at the heart of the work at the Compassion Prison Project. You can take the ACEs quiz here: https://compassionprisonproject.org/childhood-trauma
At the heart of it all is compassion. We need to stop labelling people as “bad” and instead ask the question “What happened to you?”
I urge you all to check out Fritzi’s work with the Compassion Prison Project using the links below.

The concept for “Let’s Talk Mental Health” is quite straight forward. To chat with my guest in a neutral comfortable environment where we can be open and honest about mental health issues and talk about our own experiences.
Men need to talk more about Mental Health and this series is looking to address that by showcasing what others have been through and highlighting that vulnerability is a strength.
